Well, it's heatin' up here, baby. Dion has an opportunity here to demonstrate in front of his party the kind of leadership he can gather up in how he deals with Wappel. And, he can also make himself look like a complete prat in front of the rest of the house, and provide more fuel for Harper's hate machine.
Which will he choose?
Two man enter, one man leave!

As for Harper's hate machine - I'm not sure that it matters in terms of who wins the next election. Polls fluctuate madly and haven't really predicted the final result for the last two. Also - I'm pretty sure I was called for the last Ekos poll - I remember the question "who do you feel is the most decisive leader": I'm a life-long Liberal but I said Harper - he's the only one of the five party leaders who's ever been in power. How can you judge someone's decisiveness if they've never made a decision, eh? Of course, polls don't record the number of people who respond that "dude, bullshit question, eh?"

most decisive leader
There's more than one kind of leadership, and you don't need to be in power to be a leader (of your own party). However, I'm amazed at Layton's complete and utter futility at being a leader and am sad to see how far the NDP have fallen since the days of luminaries like Lewis and Broadbent.
One thing that really bothers me about Harper's leadership style is his extreme control freak tendencies. He continues to have a real clamp on his caucus and seems to want to micromanage everything. This could mean that his machine is just dealing with the number of neophytes and flakes in his party (which could be, understandably, proportionally higher than in other longer-standing parties just for time served if nothing else). Or it could be that he really is a back-room policy wonk who wants to control everything.
Either does not bode well for his future.
And his tendency for "I get all the credit, you get all the blame" management is not a long term strategy for success. He will get eaten by his own zuvembis in the end, if he's not careful.

I think Harper gets one more shot at a majority and then he's finished either way - if he loses to a Liberal majority, the RetroCons will turf him for a newer model and if he wins another minority or loses to a Liberal minority, the RetroCons will pull out their knives. He's trying to ride herd on an unhappy marriage of fiscal conservatives and neocons with a significant nutjob fringe to manage. IMO, the money on both sides of the party expect a majority and if they don't get it, they're going to start shopping for a more sellable leader.
