I wonder if the final trait that will sink His Nibs Of Cross Garter is not, in fact, his dubious financial jiggery-pokery (whether or not it was a crime), but his absolute refusal (or, in fact, fundamental inability) to display anything remotely approaching contrition.

If you were to write Conrad Black as a fictional character, you'd be dinged for a one-dimensional, over-the-top portrayal, with unbelievably phony dialog.
