For some reason, season 2 seems so much more aimless, unfocussed, remote, and just plain bland than the first season. I seriously doubt I'll be getting the DVD when it comes out unless this season's second half is measurably better than the first.

edit: However, according to Jeff Jensen at Entertainment Weekly, it appears that Tim Kring has been noticing my pain (and the reported pain of other watchers) and vows to do something about it. Kring's list of "what went wrong" pretty much tallies with mine.

That's assuming, of course, the second half of the season comes out.

I just edited this comment!

I would agree with you until the last minute of the most recent episode.

That's the thing - I was willing to give them as much lead time to set up the big puzzles and surprises in the second season as I did with the first. And now that we have another nasty future event to stop, the mysterious goings on in the previous months to delve back into and the revelation of a villain that neatly ties in the reasons for Hiro's mucking about in Japan and the repeated use of the Godsend symbol across the series I find it was time well spent.

Perhaps. I'm still watching. I just found the set-up episodes for this seasons not nearly as engaging as last year's. And there's whole whacks of characters that just seem horribly flat and who I could care less about.

After the limp season finale, I don't have the same trust in the writers, so I was still surprised and pleased to see the sudden turn of events.
