So our red-Liberal incumbent, who pretty much everyone I know swears is a "decent guy" and who has 10 years of federal political experience, was defeated last night by a (apparently socially conservative) CON candidate with next to no political experience, and who (according to CBC's bio of him) lists nearly all of his relevant experience as being religious in nature (formed this church, member of that church organization, participated in this Christian mission in those third-world countries).

If the Greens hadn't run a candidate in our riding, then perhaps some of those votes might have gone to the incumbent, and not all to the NDP candidate (who finished a distant third).

How long will it take before someone starts making noise about "uniting the Left" in this country? How long will it take before Harper's amalgam of Social Conservatives (like our guy), Fiscal Conservatives, and a few dangling Red Tories, shakes itself apart ideologically? I hope the latter comes before the former, because I'm not sure I want to live in a two party state as do our fabulous friends south of the border...

Welcome to our hell. :( Sorry things turned out like that. Dubya has been all smug about the whole thing. Those of us wanting to escape to Canada are now considering New Zealand. You can come along.

Hmmm ... New Zealand ... well, I can think of visiting, but perhaps not a forever thing. New Zealand ... aren't these the guys that (a) privatized the hell out of everything in the late eighties, (b) came to spread the doctrine of privatization to our western political crowd (yessir, Mr Klein, I'm lookin' at you!), and (c) had to put advertising on their cop cars for a while to help pay the rent?

I think y'all would do better up here, slight shift to the centre-right be damned. Plus we have such beautfiul wide open spaces to offer! 8)

Anyway, are you the one that can assist me obtaining a copy of Having A Moment, and is that how you came to post a reply to my journal? (Just curious.)

Yeah, I was doing a search for fellow Shriek fans, true. And, honestly, I'd rather come to Canada since I've wanted to move there since, oh..... 1982 or so.

As for helping with "Having a Moment," you should write to i_obtain@hotmail.com, but also copy me at angelina@barryandrews.net. That way I can forward to B and hopefully get you a response sooner rather than later. You should check out their new album "Cormorant" (http://www.maliciousdamage.biz/shriekback.html). It's a keeper.

Thanks for adding me. I added you back if'n you don't mind.

Yep; see my post of Jan 25, 0835h. 8)

I've listened to it about three or four times now, and I agree it's a keeper; it's too early to tell how much I like it (typical of most Shriek albums: it took me a good while before I really liked all of Sacred City for example), but I can tell I'll like it a fair amount. I do miss Dave's bass though.

Thanks for adding me. I added you back if'n you don't mind.

You're welcome. And not at all; thanks!
