Yesterday the latest B.P.R.D trade arrived at my local purveyor of comic goodness. I really don't understand why this title isn't more popular: I mean, look at it - Davis drawing, Mignola and Arcudi writing. Sheesh. People often make noise about Davis' cunning ability to draw eldritch monsters, but I don't think that's his strength -- to me they all seem to look like day old current buns with mouths (scary buns, though, scary). What I like are the careful clothes, architecture, props and so on, that really help to propel the reader into the text.
This and Hellboy remain the only titles where I buy singles and the trades when they arrive. For everything else, I've moved to trades only. I don't know if it's "the best comic written today", and I don't care. It's certainly one of my two favourites (along with Hellboy).
