Well, at the eleventh hour, Dion managed to herd almost all the cats back into the house. But seriously, Tom Wappel has to learn from his more savvy colleagues. What, you want a late night visit from the party's enforcers with the long coats? You don't vote against your leader's wishes when you're in the opposition for criminey's sake. Learn from your friends! You either call in sick (A dozen of your friends did; what, you think they were all really ill? You think they all ate at the same salad bar last night and got the food poisoning off the pickled onions?), or at the very least, you abstain like Cotler did. And even that is risking a visit from the long arm of the Grit heavy weather squad.
For God's sake, man! It's one of the chief rules of politics! If you haven't got anything bad to say when you're the Queen's Dog watching a minority government, then do try to keep your yap shut. And never, ever, ever vote for the government when your boss tells you not to.
Mind you, this is the same Tom Wappel who thinks that men should not be marrying men, nor women, women. Wappel has spent so long as the Liberal's self-identified "social conservative" (some might say nut-job) in the corner, that maybe the Grits are keeping him around for comic relief and the appearance of being a "balanced party". So, you get what you pay for, I guess.
And Harper's comeback? Dion forced his caucus into line, and put politics ahead of the national interest.
Hello? Mr Kettle? Mr Pot appears to have something to say about how you conduct your business...
Gah. Will no one rid us of this turbulent item of kitchenware?
