So apparently Whedon has gone back to shoot a new first episode for his new project, Dollhouse. Apparently the suits at Fox¹ "loved the pilot when they read it", then saw the pilot, and thought it felt a "little different than [they] thought it was going to".

How long till we start thinking of Joss Whedon in roughly the same way we think about Tim Minear?

For my money, the request for a reshoot is a good thing: Fox must be really interested. I wonder who's picking up the tab?

It's not actually a re-shoot; it's a shoot for a new episode, so it may not actually be beyond the budget for the show (it just delays the initial air date or accelerates the production schedule). My guess is that the suits pointed at one of the other scheduled episodes and said "we should start with a train robbery: shoot that now so we can air it first".
