This Sunday was another boardgaming afternoon chez nous. With four players and not a burning desire to rush Agricola to the table (played approximately 10 times in the past three weeks), we decided to put first Indonesia on the table and then Age of Steam (rustbelt board) to introduce one of the players to AoS.

I was an alarmingly good host. Why?

So, I order a new Mac from the Canadian online Apple Store. It has shipped, via FedEx.

It shipped from Ontario. Where has it gone? Well, FedEx tracking very carefully tracks it going from Ontario (where I live) to Memphis Tennessee where it spent the weekend, and then north, back over the border to... (wait for it)... Winnipeg, Manitoba. Where I do not live.

I am baffled. I sort of understand the math involved in shipping problems that has "all packages go through Memphis" be a bit efficient. But surely to heavens to Betsy there's little efficiency to be had in taking my package from a depot which is almost certainly 100km from where I live to Memphis (out of the country) and then to Winnipeg (which might just be about the same distance from my front door as Memphis is...)?

I'm not at all convinced that it wouldn't have been better to ship my, somewhat fragile, package by a FedEx surface truck from Mississauga or Toronto (where the Apple North warehouse almost certainly is) to my place of business here in Waterloo.
