Last weekend was a fairly light game weekend, all things considered. Only played three games: Power Grid once, and Pillars Of The Earth twice.

The Fates, not being content with stinging one of our promising home-region Raptors' sterling rookie talents with sudden appendicitis, have seen fit to further smack them around by submitting their other sterling rookie talent to one of the most gruesome ankle injuries in recent NBA memory.

Let the wailing and lamentations begin.

With a cool dozen left to go in the regular season, the Raptors appeared to be in undeniable command of their division, and indeed poised to make a run at the rarified air of the upper portion of the conference playoff ladder.

On more established teams, the prospect of losing two of your rookies for the remainder of the year (at least) might not be such a desperate proposition. However, in the second half of the season, both Bargnani and Garbajosa proved themselves such vital cogs in the deep-bench machine that was the Raptors in January and February. Given that both Calderon and Parker (two other vital cogs) appear a bit nicked up, the Fates are certainly playing with the fragile, newly found optimism of Toronto basketball fans.

Now, it would not be out of the realm of possibility for the Knicks or the Nets to think that they could steal the division crown back, with a solid run of wins. And it would also not be entirely doom laden to think that the Raptors chances of doing anything in the playoffs this year just got a great deal slimmer.
