UI grumble redux: dok stax stil sux

It appears that, although I may have sounded like a bit of a raving loonie, I am not the only one who thinks that the UI team at Apple in charge of the dock may have been on some bad weed: John Siracusa apparently also thinks so. I feel vindicated.

I saw you mention in Nicoll's blahg a Waterloo gamers group. Do they actually meet, or is this more a hypothetical thing?

No, we actually meet. Every Wednesday night. Other members include [livejournal.com profile] james_nicoll, [livejournal.com profile] doc_lemming, [livejournal.com profile] briandorion, and a host of other folks without LJs (Jim Gardner, Ian Lim, Vidal Bairos). The core group has been playing for over twenty years, so we're pretty set in our ways.

Also, to be fair, I should mention that we're not the only gamers in Waterloo, nor do we have any kind of formal exclusivity on the name I shouldn't think... but we quite often make snide comments about the kind of behaviour that Waterloo Gamers engage in during play... for example, a GM who's at a bit of a short end has but to roll a die, say, "A drop of water lands oooon.... your head", and then sit back and watch the paranoid fun ensue.

Ahhh. I just am going to try and network and outreach with local gaming groups in the GTA this year (for the Expo) and I thought that it might be an organized group.

Uhhh.. Is it organized, like a club, or just a 'gaming group' type of thing?

Nah, it's just a gaming group. The closest thing I know of locally that's "organized" is the Kitchener Waterloo Gamers (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KitchenerWaterlooGamers/) boardgame club that was started by a fellow by advertising on BoardGameGeek. It's really just a casual gaming group, but it has a mailing list that's used to arrange meetups.
