Spring is sprung, the grass is rizz, and so it's time for the annual revisit to the friends list.

Please note that I don't particularly object to LJ folks friending me, for whatever reason they might have (although I ruthlessly bounce spam-bot accounts). Also, to those unfriended, I don't intend any kind of personal insult by my action: it's just that I don't feel I really connect with your posts the way a regular reader should. If you perceive a similar lack of connection to mine, you can feel free to mutually unfriend, or not, as you see fit.

Much sleep has been lost, a visitation and funeral attended. My family has fallen ill and is now slowly recovering. I have switched jobs. What a week.

I'm hoping the rest of the summer will pass in relative calm.

Early this morning, one of my friends died from a cerebral haemorrhage brought on by his very recently diagnosed leukaemia. Last week at this time, he stayed home to rest what everyone thought was a flu. By the weekend, he was having his first round of chemo. This morning, his body could no longer sustain his life.

Words cannot really express the melancholy my wife and I feel, or the sympathy we feel at the grossly unfair trials that his widow will have to face in the coming months as she tends to their second child who was born just yesterday.

Our thoughts are with her, her children, and all their family, right now.

For those of you who want to know more about Jake Sauer and what he meant to those around him, several of his friends created this blog as a shared memory space.

OK, just about everyone on my friends list has already done this meme, so now I feel compelled. Curse you, memes!

My friend Judy just had her baby this morning at 6am. Just over six pounds of healthy baby girl. No name yet, but the requisite JPG was sent around in email at 8am. The world has changed: now a baby is announced by email and digital photography, before naming even. Makes one feel kind of sorry for all those printers-of-cartes-des-annonces with ink-stained fingers...
